The Live Music Scene in Australia seems to be making a killer comeback following years of neglect and struggles from venues having to close their doors due to inoperable restrictions bestowed upon them from powers above. All Ages gigs all but dried up in big QLD cities towards the end of 2010 and younger music fans were left without a place to throw down to their favourite bands when they came to town. Noise restrictions and lock out laws have also plagued our country and the venues that did survive experienced big losses and some were even forced to close their doors. We like to do our part for the little guys and the businesses fighting back so it brings us great pleasure to announce Wall of Sound‘s newest collaboration in Queensland.
We’ve partnered with the crew from Club Greenslopes in Brisbane, a Bowls Club/Live Music Venue like no other who are doing their part to revive the Live Music Scene in by opening their doors for a plethora of bands (established and upcoming) to use their facilities and services.
Club Manager Will Ashworth states:
“Club Greenslopes is a non-profit entertainment and recreational venue. There are two permanent stages indoors and a temporary stage available in the Beer Garden. The club has a fully licensed bar and kitchen, two bowls greens, pool tables, arcade games, pinball machines and a dart board. There is a dedicated green room for artists and free parking is available too.”
“Also we do free live music, bowls and pool on a Friday arvo/night. On Sundays we do free live music and pool & half price bowls. There’s also half price burgers and $12 lunches (12-3pm) on Sundays too.”
Shows like album launches, novelty gigs, personal events, music festivals and so on have made their way through the club which offers bar service for the 18+ crowd, two rooms for either large scale gigs or and smaller, more intimate settings for acoustic/solo shows right through to outdoor events like the annual SlopesFest which caters to 500 punters annually.
“The club caters to all types of bands. It has hosted events featuring rock, metal, hip hop, punk, indie, reggae, electronic, funk, jazz, soul and any other genre of music you can think of.” – Will Ashworth, Club Manager
Speaking of variety shows the club has already seen the likes of Acca/Dacca (the AC/DC Tribute Band) roll through and this weekend the club will host the British Invasion Party featuring local bands performing iconic tracks by Led Zeppelin, Queen, Sabbath and other English rock bands but for the heavy metal crowd the Gods of Hard Rock Show on May 6th will see Ride the Lightning: Metallica Tribute Band alongside local bands performing Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Megadeth, Kiss and more. Get your tickets to these shows here.
So if you’re in the South East Queensland area or are looking for a venue to have your next gig/event, get in touch with the guys and make use of the next thriving Live Venue to give back. We’ll most probably be there too!
