Def Leppard Top 10 Songs (Tour starts November 17th)!
Def Leppard are in Australia in just a fortnight’s time playing three massive shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. For many of us, Def Leppard‘s ‘Hysteria‘ was a stepping stone into some heavier music as it’s release in 1987 coincided that year with a little band called Guns ‘N Roses and their album, Appetite for Destruction. It was a good year to start a transition into rock music! Hysteria went on to sell over 25 million copies and in 2004, the album was ranked at #464 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The band hasn’t been devoid of tragedy however, with drummer Rick Allen losing an arm in a car accident on New Year’s Eve 1984. Incredibly, though sheer determination, some deft footwork and an electronic drum kit Allen resumed duties with the band in 1986 and hasn’t missed a beat since (pardon the pun)! Sadly in 1991, original guitarist Steve Clark died from an accidental mix of prescription drugs and alcohol on 8 January 1991. He was replaced a year later by former Whitesnake and Dio guitraist, Vivian Campbell and that line-up has stayed strong ever since.
The band will be hitting Australia with a new album, as their self-titled record, number eleven in their career hit the stores October 30. Guitarist Phil Collen referred to the album as “probably the most diverse thing we’ve done” as well as “the best thing we’ve done since Hysteria” as it contains “the loudest rock guitars we’ve ever had on some tracks.” However, he stopped short of calling it an “experimental”, album, instead saying that it’s “more liberating and expressive”.
Wall of Sound has again assembled a ‘Top 10’ list to mark the tour. Let’s start the adrenalin flowing for what should be one of the rock shows of the year!
Without further ado, check out Wall of Sound’s thoughts on Def Leppard’s, Top 10 songs….and feel free to argue the point (nicely) to us over on the Wall of Sound Facebook Page or Twitter! ….and if you don’t have your tickets yet, then why the hell not?!
