Liam Cormier - Cancer Bats (audio interview)
When most people think of musicians from Canada, unfortunately the names which usually pop up first are Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and Nickelback. This needs to change and the boys from Cancer Bats need to become the top name for an act which best represents Canada's musical talent. The bats are no stranger to Australia, already touring and gaining more fans with each and every visit, and it's deserving too, their on-stage presence, brutal breakdowns and fun loving attitude makes them one of the best bands in the scene.
Front-man Liam Cormier is a man of many talents, not only does he front Cancer Bats and AxeWound, but collectively with the other Bats members, they have started a heavier Black Sabbath cover band cheekishly titled Bat Sabbath which offers fans of both Sabbath and Bats the opportunity to hear heavier versions of their favourite Ozzy Osbourne and co. tracks. If you've ever wanted to get your parents or fans of older rock into the heavier side of the industry, listenign to these guys is how you'll be able to do it.
The boys just wrapped up their tour of Australia but not before we had a chat to Liam about the success he's witnessed every time he returns to Australia and how his growing fanbase is what keeps them going harder and stronger with every release. I'll admit, I haven't had the chance to check out their latest album "Searching for Zero" because I'm a terrible person and need to take a good long look at myself, but their earlier work on albums like "Hail Destroyer" or "Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones" is enough to get you hooked on these guys and make you regret having waited so long to check them out.
For fans of their work covering songs from other artists, unfortunately the sad news is that their days of reworking someone else's songs seem to be coming to an end, so get amongst it now while you can. Sabotage is hands down their best cover (and most popular at shows) to date.
Until next time, rock the fuck out
