ICYMI – Week Ending 20th September

ICYMI begins with a sombre introduction with the news during the week of the passing of Martin Kearns of U.K’s death metal legends, Bolt Thrower. Kearns passed away mid-week in his sleep from causes unknown, he was 38 years old. A release from the group stated Kearns had left band practice a few days ago, complaining that he’d not been feeling well. Though the reason behind his death has not yet been explained, the band note that he died “peacefully in his sleep”.

“With the heaviest of hearts, and still numb from shock, we have to share the very sad news that on Monday, Bolt Thrower lost our powerhouse drummer, Martin ‘Kiddie’ Kearns,” the group said in a statement. “After the first rehearsal for our upcoming tour of Australia, Kiddie suddenly felt unwell which continued throughout the night, and the next day he passed away peacefully in his sleep.”

The slated Australian tour due to commence next week is now indefinitely postponed. Condolences to the Bolt Thrower family, friends and fans.

Into Metallica news, and no, it’s not details of a new album or a 12″ mix of Lulu album, this week Metallica unveiled a Metallica branded Budweiser beer. The beer will be made available on September 28 as a tie-in promotion for Metallica playing the final show at Quebec City’s legendary Colisée Pepsi this past Monday (September 14) and giving the opening concert at the brand new Centre Vidéotron on Wednesday night (September 16).

On Wednesday, a tanker truck filled with Budweiser was parked in front of the Centre Vidéotron. Once the Metallica show was finished, the tanker headed to the Labatt plant in LaSalle, near Montreal. The beer will be made available in cans, with more than 91,000 black containers being distributed to mark the historic transition from the old venue to the new arena. Wall of Sound are betting that a heap of these cans will be flooding eBay in the coming weeks.
