ICYMI returns with all the news, music vids, album details, tours and latest streams for another week and as we roll into spring things are really ramping up towards another killer summer in Australia. Soundwave Festival 2016 are apparently naming another few artists this week for their line up but the news of the week had to be that of Black Sabbath, who are embarking on one last tour and they will hit our shores in April 2016! ‘The End’ tour will begin in the United States in January ending up at the famous Madison Square Garden before heading onto New Zealand and Australia. More shows will be added worldwide next month. So this is it folks for the mighty ‘Sabbath….definitely one show not to missed!
Elsewhere, Soundgarden appear to be working on some new material, with the band posting a pick from the studio on their facebook page. The band’s most recent album, King Animal was released almost three years ago. Front man, Chris Cornell‘s solo effort, Higher Truth is set for release 18 September. More Cornell could only be a good thing right?
The most worrying news in the past week has been the health of MOTÖRHEAD frontman, Lemmy Kilmister. The band were forced to cut its concert in Austin, Texas the other night short due to continued health issues experienced by Lemmy. Check out the fan footage below of the band’s walk off, where a clearly affected Lemmy is helped off stage after admitting to the crowd, “I can’t do it”. The band has cancelled several shows this week however the band issued the release, “Lemmy fully intends to resume touring duties as, and when, his doctors give him the all-clear.” Wall of Sound wish him all the best! Take care Lemmy!
Onto music vid’s released this week, starting off with At The Gates, ‘The Book of Sand’. Taken from last years At War With Reality. It won’t be long until At the Gates hit our shores either, with the band due down under at the end of October.
California’s hard rock vet’s the Bulletboys are back with a new track, ‘Rollover’. Featuring Playboy model, Ivy Ferguson, if the music donesn’t grab you, the eye candy might!
We showcased the new Skindred track, ‘Under Attack’ last week but the band have quickly followed up with the official video. New album Volume is out October 30th.
Queensryche are back with ‘Guardian’ taken from new album Condition Human due October 2nd.
To touring news and we’ve already discussed the bigger than Ben Hur tour of Black Sabbath, however another tour to keep an eye on will be the return of San Diego punksters, Unwritten Law. One of the favourite pop-punk band’s of the ’90s return this December.
An interesting tour announced this week was the news that recently departed Slayer drummer, Dave Lombardo. Join Dave as he discusses his incomparable musical career and Rhythm Mysterium Art Collection. Watch never before seen footage, hear his new Paiste REIGN Ride, participate in a candid Q&A forum and meet the legend. One of heavy metal’s finest drummer in the genre’s history, this sure to be more than your average drum clinic!
In album news, this week has been pretty desolate, maybe everyone is taking in a collective sigh of breath with the gigantic releases of the past week from Iron Maiden, Five Finger Death Punch and Motorhead, and with Slayer and Bring Me The Horizon out next week…..it has been a gigantic week in the heavy side of things musically. One band that did forget the memo was death metal merchants, Autopsy.
Commencing with After the Cutting on November 13, this is a special limited release containing an expansive book penned by Dennis Dread recounting the career of the gore outfit, featuring unseen photos and exclusive artwork, accompanied by four discs brimmed full of classics, new tracks and previously unheard rarities from deep within the band’s own archive.
This will be followed by the aptly-titled Skull Grinder, containing seven new tracks (also featured on After the Cutting) and releasing on vinyl to coincide with this year’s Black Friday on November 27.
Into all the new music we could grab hold of and there is a distinct leaning towards old school hard rock this week with the first few tracks.
Firstly, W.A.S.P with ‘Scream’ from forthcoming album Golgotha due October 2nd.
‘Big Screen Lies’ from Stryper is next, their new record Fallen due October 16th.
Slowly working our way up from the ’80s, we hit Ugly Kid Joe‘s latest comeback. The first track from Uglier Than They Used To Be, due October 16th, check out ‘Hell Ain’t Hard To Find’.
Devil City Angels the band originally formed by Rikki Rockett (POISON), Tracii Guns (L.A GUNS), Eric Brittingham (CINDERELLA), and vocalist Brandon Gibbs release their debut album September 18. The self titled release was also self produced. Check out the track ‘All My People’.
Edging our way out of the hard rock scene, with hit stoner legends, Monster Magnet who release the lyric video for the song ‘Watch Me Fade’ from Cobras and Fire (The Mastermind Redux)…
Finally, we stick our heads into the punk scene, with a little ditty by H2O with ‘Use Your Voice’ the title track from H2O’s forthcoming album, Use Your Voice. Pre-order now at http://www.b9store.com/h2o
So we’re done for this week….Black Sabbath may of topped the week’s business by a monumental margin but this final little video of humour might just top off your week. If you haven’t seen this mash up of Slipknot performing Ricky Martin’s ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ then you need to stop what you’re doing and watch….hilarious.
Until next week…..and promising to be more witty and possibly more drunk for next week’s ICYMI…..I’m
Chip in a buck or two for the WoS crew!
