ICYMI – Week Ending 30th August
Whilst our usual ICYMI segment had a short hiatus, metal hillbillies Hellyeah have been tearing it up around the nation to packed houses. The band featuring legendary Pantera drummer, Vinnie Paul, conclude their tour Monday night in Perth. If you haven’t got your ticket yet there are a few left, so get down and see some metal!
Elsewhere, the past fortnight has been dominated with the news that ex-Guns ‘N Roses guitarist Slash is now mates again with Axl Rose. Maybe age does heal old wounds or maybe Axl is short of a dollar and sees sense in making amends with the top hatted axeman? Either way, rumours have swirled ever since, including the bizarre notion that Guns ‘N Roses could unite Slash and Axl again, down under, at the 2016 Soundwave Festival! Personally, I smell bullshit, but only time will tell?
In other news, Ac/Dc have kick started their North American leg of their world tour promoting most recent album, Rock or Bust amongst the band’s gigantic back catalogue. Most states for their upcoming Australian tour are nearing a sell out or already there, so don’t waste your time securing your ticket to see these legends at work.
Disturbed have recently released their new album Immortalized and this week kicked off their first live show in four years. Playing in their home town of Chicago the band will be edging gently back into the touring schedule playing a run of smaller venues around the U.S. Despite denials from those attached to Soundwave Festival, the band seem a likely headline act come the announcement of band’s in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
Speaking of Soundwave, one of the favourites of the Festival has been F*cked Up, the Toronto punk band. Recently frontman Damian Abraham stated that the band is going to go on “hiatus” and that the band is “going to take a break.” On his Turned Out a Punk podcast episode 42 with Fat Mike of NOFX, Abraham explained that he and his wife are having another child.
On a slightly weirder note, fellow Canadian’s, Anvil, have released their own line of coffee. Yep…Official Ground Coffee and Official Espresso Beans. The coffee and beans are organic and Fairtrade certified. They are available to order at Rock Coffee. Anvil, it seems will go to no ends to raise funds for their new album of which they have launched an exhaustive range of Anvil experiences or memorabilia to get a hold of with your pledge. Check out the band’s Facebook page for details.
If you collect this kind of crap, ie branded food or beer or whatever, thrash supergroup of sorts, Iron Reagan have brewed their own Belgian beer with, believe it or not, jelly beans, added for that extra ‘insanity’. In all likelihood, it’ll taste like shit, but to kick off the beer’s release they are playing a free show in Richmond, Virginia. Stay tuned for details on where you can get hold of this amber ale….
….clocking in at 8.4% ABV it’s sure to pack some punch either way and like head honcho, Tony Foresta (Municipal Waste) says, “It has fucking jellybeans in it”!
I guess the man has a point.
We better head into the spate of music videos released in the last fortnight, and we’ve had to be selective here due to the sheer volume of awesome vids released in that time. Search the Wall of Sound Video section for the latest Trivium, Simple Plan, Parkway Drive, Bring Me The Horizon and Iron Maiden eye candy videos but keep reading for the best of the rest….
We kick off with Graveyard with ‘The Apple and the Tree’. From the new album Innocence & Decadence which will see the light of day on September 25th.
Finnish band, Amorphis release Under the Cloud this week (4th Sept), and released the track ‘Sacrifice’ a few days ago……
Metalcore band, Devil Wears Prada have released their Space Ep, a six track concept album dealing with their alien fascination. Weird huh….anyhow, this is the video for ‘Planet A’
Iowa christian metalcore band, For Today are releasing their new album October 2nd via Nuclear Blast Records and have released the video for the track, ‘Broken Lens’….definitely liking the sound of this track.
Buckcherry have already released new album, Rock N Roll and here’s their latest video, ‘Tight Pants’. I’m not feeling it, personally, the video or the track, but feel free to argue the point one way or another…..
American Latin metal band, Ill Nino may of released their last album Till Death, La Familia last year but that hasn’t stopped them forging on with another music video. ‘Blood if Thicker Than Water’ probably one of their better tracks is now a video, check it out…
After slaying Soundwave in February, The Interrupters have a new music video out, full of punk goodness. ‘Take Back The Power’ by The Interrupters from the self-titled album, out now.
The past fortnight has seen a host of tours announced and a great mix to appease all genre’s of the heavy variety. Besides the rumoured May tour from Iron Maiden (yet to be fully disclosed), we’ve had Megadeth launching a national tour and bringing with them, Children of Bodom. Some may not have forgiven Dave (Mustaine) for his late 2014 Soundwave cancellation or Super Collider (Megadeth’s last album) or even for the departure of Broderick and Drover from the band earlier this year, but, Mustaine and co sure know how to play a kick arse show and these shows are sure to be monumental!
Besides, Megadeth, we’ve also had Soilwork announce they’ll head down under, albeit, not until February 2016, but hey…nothing like forward planning. Mixing up the genres, Lagwagon are back in Australia this November and completely at the other end of the ‘heavy’ spectre entirely, black metal’s Abbath are playing three east coast dates in October. Lastly, Downfall of Gaia, the mostly german, sludge meets black metal meets technical mastery are also playing three east coast shows in November.
On the album front, Escape the Fate will release its new album, Hate Me, on October 30 via Eleven Seven Music. It will be the post hardcore quartet’s fifth studio album.
90’s hard rock band, Ugly Kid Joe also revealed they will release Uglier Than They Used Ta Be, October 16th. It will be the band’s fourth full length studio album and first release since 2013’s EP, Stairway to Hell, which was surprisingly quite good to be honest.
Slightly more talented, ok let’s be frank, the far more talented Baroness, will release the follow up to the epic Yellow & Green double album, with the subtedly titled Purple on December 18th.Pre-order packages for Purple, which feature an instant download of “Chlorine & Wine” as well as a limited-edition colored vinyl version of the new album, two picture discs, t-shirts and other unique items, are available now via this link.
Finally to some new music, the streams, the lyric vids, the soundclouds. No descirptions needed this week , just endless clips….go grab a beer or a cuppa for this lot……it has been a fortnight!
Last but not least go check out Perth metal band Tempest Rising who have recently released their new single from an as yet, untitled second album. Give a listen to ‘Know My Name’. The band are doing some very cool things on the back of debut album Transmutation.
Anyways that’ll be enough for this ICYMI segment, I’ll be back much sooner. In the meantime check out this incredible rendition of Metallica‘s ‘One’ via the ukelele I was emailed this week….haha, so intricate….sooooo good! \m/
Cheers
