ICYMI – Week Ending 16th August

Wowsers what a week! Wall of Sound could start reporting on the latest in the Katy Perry v Taylor Swift feud or how fat Nikki Minaj’s arse is these days, but no, we’re a respectable music website but more importantly we don’t give a fuck about that shit! You like it heavy and loud right? ….you’ve come to the right place. So strap yourself in, apologise to your neighbours now and get ready to feast your eyes on all the best tour details, music videos, streams, album news and gossip we can find all wrapped in one gigantic spread. You can thank us later…..

Surely you guys have seen or read about the Simpsons, Ned Flanders inspired heavy metal band, Okilly Dokilly. If you have, move along and skip down the page as seriously this news has been done to death….if you haven’t, keep reading. So the singer is called Head Ned, the band is a five piece and they’ve tapped into a niche it seems as the band has received over 20,000 Facebook likes in a very short period of time. On YouTube, the band’s demos are climbing rapidly toward 200,000 views….and that’s in just 3-4 days. Personally, the music sucks, but for gimmicks it seems they’ve hit a home run.

Speaking of home runs it seems Alter Bridge and Slash front man, Myles Kennedy is not content switching between his two bands, as he has just wrapped up recording his debut solo album. As yet there is no album title or release date. Kennedy described the CD to Music Radar as “probably a little more singer-songwriter oriented than what people have heard from me before. There’s piano on it, and it’s a little more intimate sounding.” More Kennedy can only be a good thing right?

Onto our special update on all things Soundwave Festival. This week saw the news that Bullet For My Valentine will be appearing, the first of what should be a bucketload of international and national acts gracing the three remaining venues on the east coast come January. Promoter, AJ Maddah also stated this week that the bands will have longer sets but quickly pointed out that this would not deter the Festival from spending less money on the bands attending. Intrigue surrounds the final line up, which is expected to drop in the next 2-3 weeks. Unlike previous years, the line up may in fact be released in dribs and drabs across the Soundwave website and social media.

When it comes to bands likely to be appearing Wall of Sound has very little information other than to say that the strong rumours lean towards bands such as Parkway Drive, Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, Bring Me The Horizon and Refused. Anyway, stay tuned, Soundwave Festival 2016 is about to get very interesting.
SW16dates-760x281Onto to the touring info for this past week and it has been relatively quiet beside post-hardcore band Sleeping with Sirens breaking the news of a return to Australia for their first headlining tour in over two years. Their latest album Madness was released with Epitaph back in March and the boys haven’t had the chance to bring their new material to us until now. The guys are hitting our shores in September.
swssOn the music video front it was alot more frantic with a stack of quality releases. Starting off with Wovenwar. The band released their debut self titled album last year and waited for the dust to settle before releasing the next single, ‘Archers’. The video is cut from live footage, filmed by Josh Knoff, from the band’s recent hometown show at Brick by Brick. Wovenwar was one of the surprise highlights of 2014, check out the video for yourselves….

Heading further back into the realms of hard rock, Lynch Mob, led by former Dokken guitarist, George Lynch has just released the track ‘Testify’, from the album Rebel, due out next week. If you’re into that old school hard rock sound, this is pretty cool.

Welsh metal band Bullet For My Valentine accompanied the release of their new album, Venom with a music video for the track ‘Army of Noise’. Confirmed for Soundwave 2016, check out the track and the record before they hit our shores in January…..

Pop Evil also release their new album Up next week and released another music video from that album this week entitled, ‘Footsteps’.

UK legends, Iron Maiden released their first track from The Book of Souls double album due September 4 with ‘Speed of Light’ featuring the famous ‘Eddie’ destorying lives in many video game guises. Heading towards 3 million YouTube hits in just a few days, Iron Maiden continue to please fans well into Grandfather time….

On a more hectic note, Crossfaith, the Japanese metalcore electro fusion band and Soundwave favourites released the video ‘Devil’s Party’ from new album Xeno, due September 18. This video is pretty cool and the track very promising with it’s catchy chorus and breakdown.

Our own Buried In Verona released a new video this week also. The track ‘Extraction’ is taken from Vultures Above, Lions Below, out now via UNFD/Rise.

Onto album news and The Winery Dogs, the power trio featuring drummer Mike Portnoy (Metal Allegiance, Ex-Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold),  bassist Billy Sheehan (Mr Big, David Lee Roth) and guitar/vocalist  Richie Kotzen (Mr Big, Poison) will release its sophomore album, Hot Streak, on October 2.

Boysetsfire has announced the release of a new LP. The record is self-titled and will be released September 25th. The band has also premiered a track from the album called “Cutting Room Floor.” You can listen to the song here.

Onto the never ending streams, we kick it off with some death metal in the form of Finland’s Children of Bodom. ‘I Worship Chaos’ the official lyric video has been released, check it out below. The album of the same name is due October 2nd from our friends at Nuclear Blast Records. As always on that label, the album will be released with a multitude of formats and pre-order options.

Whilst on the death metal genre, Brazilian band Krisiun, have released another lyric video from the record, Forged in Fury (avail now). Check out the track, ‘Ways of Barbarism’.

Why not a third death metal track…Malevolent Creation are back September 18 with a new album, the band’s twelfth, Dead Man’s Path. Check out the lyric video for ‘Blood of the Fallen’

Mellowing it down slightly, Trivium have released another track from Silence In the Snow. Cleaarly wanting to push themselves into future headline slots with a more watered down yet still heavy sound, check out ‘Blind Leading the Blind’.

South Carolina’s death metal maestro’s Nile return with their new beastly album What Should Not Be Unearthed on August 28. Check out the track ‘Evil to Cast Out Evil’. If this track is anything to go by, this album will be nothing short of immense!

California’s Atreyu return with sixth album, Long Live 18 September. In the meanwhile check out ‘Start to Break’ from the album.

Hard rock band, Shinedown are also releasing an album 18 September with Threat to Survival. Have a listen to ‘Black Cadillac’ from the album.

Soundgarden front man Chris Cornell releases another solo album soon, with Higher Truth due 18th September….must be something about that date! Anyways, check out ‘that’ voice and his guitar on the track, Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart’.

Finally, punk band, Against Me! release their much anticipated live album 23 Live Sex Acts on September 4. Recorded across the band’s 2014 world tour the album will feature…you guessed it…23 live songs. You can check out the track, ‘True Trans Soul Rebel’ below…

So there you have another week. Hopefully some more Soundwave news for you in the next fortnight as ICYMI takes a break for a week – alas we’ll keep you up to date as much as possible with the key issues, in the meantime….go out and buy some records, attend some live shows, get amongst it!
