ICYMI – Week Ending 9th August

Nirvana 1991

ICYMI – yep, it’s been seven days already! Never fear, Wall of Sound has your week covered. Album news, streams, music vids, tours and a snippet of what’s been happening in the world of heavy music in the one place.

….and we start this week with Nirvana news. Yep, Kurt Cobain may of been dead now for 21 years but a mysterious batch of previously unreleased tracks has surfaced across the week including alternate takes, mixes and demos from the band’s Nevermind and In Utero sessions. One track ‘Sappy’, was recorded at Sound City with Cobain playing lead guitar while attempting to sing one live scratch vocal.

Unfortunately the bunch of tracks have since been deleted by UMG. However, look and you will find! (hint hint YouTube)

On the Seattle vibe of things, Chris Cornell (Soundgarden/Audioslave), this week suggested that the supergroup band Audioslave may not be finished just yet. Audioslave recorded three albums between 2002 and 2007 before splitting over a ‘difference in creative direction’.

In an interview for Total Guitar Cornell states that he’s open to the idea of an Audioslave reunion.

“I think it would be great. We did a lot of songs and with the benefit of not having done anything with those guys for so long, I can’t imagine what it would be. It would be a really amazing experience just to get back and work with the same guys again.”

Reflecting on his period with Audioslave, Cornell added, “We were certainly a prolific group of people; we wrote three whole albums in around five years, maybe less. And these were albums that were raw, and we had extra material, and we just never seemed to have trouble ever trying to agree on what would come out of the songs.”

audioslavewideIn other news from around the globe, Slipknot’s new bassist Alessandro “Alex” Venturella suffered an undisclosed medical emergency in the middle of Slipknot’s set in Hartford, Connecticut. The band stopped the set for 20 minutes, but returned to the stage to continue the show as an eight-piece band.

The band later issued a small statement, explaining;

“After a medical emergency during last night’s show, we are relieved to let everyone know that our bass player, Alex ‘Vman’ Venturella, is well on the road to recovery. Alex collapsed mid-set after feeling unwell and as a precautionary measure was taken to hospital where he was found to be suffering from severe dehydration. After recuperating overnight, he has now been discharged from hospital and is on his way back to his Slipknot family.”Fan taken footage of the incident has since shown the bassist being taken away by ambulance…

Lastly on the news front, who could forget Lenny Kravitz’s tight leather pants malfunction mid song in Stockholm earlier in the week. Unfortunately Lenny and his crew are not taking too kindly to having the video shown, threatening legal proceedings, so Wall of Sound won’t be divulging the hilarious incident, however, we couldn’t let it slip without this classic meme that has been thrown into the internet world during the week. Seek out the gif stillfloating around or check YouTube for the footage if you still want to see Lenny rocking with his cock out!

Back to Seattle legend, Chris Cornell. His latest solo album, Higher Truth is set for release September 18. It will be Cornell’s first solo album since the controversial Scream album of 2009 in which he turned his hand to pop music. Urgh! The album has been produced, however, by Brendan O’Brien, who gained notoriety back in 1994 by mixing Soundgarden’sSuperunknown, so fingers crossed, this will be a cracker!
